Teaching Philosophy

Learning the game of golf has to be fun...not intimidating.

A good swing comes from these fundamentals:
  • Grip: This is your only connection with the club. You must develop feel.
  • Posture: Bending from the hips, your posture and balance dictate how the club is swung around your spine angle. Spacing, the distance between the student's hans on the club and the student's hips, is greatly determined by posture.
  • Ball Position: This is essential in order to square the clubface, also to determine the height and curvature of the ball flight.
  • Alignment: Feet, knees, hips, and shoulders must be on a parallel line, just left of the target.
  • Pivot or Follow-through: This involves transferring your weight from the right side of your body to the left, with rotation squaring the clubface at impact for nice balance.

The following are essential for learning the game of golf:
  • Personal Goals: Be realistic about lowering your handicap, breaking 90, etc..
  • Physical Factors: Flexibility, posture, balance, coordination, diet, strength and conditioning all impact your game.
  • Pre-shot Routine: This gives you the ability to repeat a familiar move under pressure. It creates confidence and consistency.
  • Custom-fitted Equipment: Adult clubs to not fit children.

Elements of learning:
  • Knowledge: Course management and preparation
  • Structure: Drills and video instruction
  • Mental Training: Stay in the moment and do not get ahead of yourself
  • Desire: Love and enjoy the game. Be willing to do the work it takes to reach your goal.
  • Willingness to Change: Consider looking at different putting grips, putting with hybrids from off the green, using a three-wedge system, or using a two-driver system.
